Club Brugge KV, Athletic Club, Sporting Clube de Portugal, PSV Eindhoven and RSC Anderlecht all won their second straight games on matchday two as Huub Stevens celebrated victory on his return to FC Schalke 04.

Dutchman Stevens, who led Schalke to UEFA Cup glory in 1997, this week returned to take charge of the Bundesliga outfit and started with a 3-1 win against Maccabi Haifa FC that put his side top of Group J on four points.

However, there are five teams who are sitting on a maximum six points. Club Brugge defeated last season's runners-up SC Braga 2-1 in Portugal and sit at the Group H summit, while Sporting survived most of the second half with ten men to edge S.S. Lazio by the same scoreline.

Matías Suárez continued his fine scoring form in Europe for Anderlecht, who made it two from two at FC Lokomotiv Moskva, while Athletic put their domestic travails behind them to defeat Paris Saint-Germain FC 2-0 and surge to the head of Group F. PSV left it late, but eventually overcame FC Rapid Bucureşti, winning 3-1.

Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur FC came from a goal behind to consign Shamrock Rovers FC to a second straight loss, and 2010 winners Club Atlético de Madrid drew 1-1 at Stade Rennais FC. R. Standard de Liège returned to winning ways after a goalless draw last time time out, beating FC København 3-0, and Celtic FC drew 1-1 with Udinese Calcio.
