Gia Geguchadze has resigned as coach of FC Zestafoni just two days before the Georgian outfit's UEFA Europa League play-off first leg against Club Brugge KV.
Geguchadze, whose side were beaten 2-1 on aggregate in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round by SK Sturm Graz, told UEFA.com: "I had set myself a goal: to reach the group stage. This mission was not completed, so I decided to leave."
The Zestafoni board had hoped to persuade Geguchadze, who last season led the club to their maiden Georgian Premier League title, to do otherwise but were unable to change his mind. His former assistant, Georgy Chiabrishvili, will take charge when Zestafoni host Club Brugge on Thursday seeking entry into the UEFA Europa League group stage.
