Celtic FC have suffered a blow with the news Honduras left-back Emilio Izaguirre could be ruled out for six months after fracturing his right ankle.
The 25-year-old, who was Scotland's player of the year last season, was forced off 17 minutes into Celtic's 1-0 Premier League win at Aberdeen FC on Sunday. With a projected recovery time of between four and six months, Izaguirre will be unavailable for the UEFA Europa League group stage should Celtic win their play-off tie against FC Sion.
"It's a huge blow for us to lose him and we don't know how long he is going to be out for," said Celtic manager Neil Lennon. "He is being assessed at the minute and we'll know whether he requires surgery. If he does he will be out for three months anyway. We might have to look at getting another left-back in." Izaguirre enjoyed a hugely impressive first campaign in Glasgow last term, having joined Celtic from CD Motagua in his homeland.
