AS Roma have finally announced the signing of attacking midfielder Erik Lamela from CA River Plate for €12m.
The 18-year-old, who is representing Argentina at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia, has agreed a five-year contract with the Giallorossi, who face ŠK Slovan Bratislava in the UEFA Europa League play-offs later this month.
Lamela, who won his first senior Argentina cap in a friendly against Paraguay in May, joined River Plate in 2008 but had only made two league appearances as a substitute before last season, when he gave a series of impressive displays in 31 top-flight starts.
Roma, who appointed Luis Enrique as their new coach after finishing sixth in Serie A last season, have also signed Bojan Krkić, Gabriel Heinze, José Ángel Valdés, Loïc Nego and Maarten Stekelenburg this summer.
