Bosnia and Herzegovina captain Emir Spahić has joined UEFA Europa League contenders Sevilla FC.

Spahić arrives from Montpellier Hérault SC for a fee reported to be in the region of €2m. The 30-year-old defender will sign a three-year deal pending a successful medical. The move brings an end to Spahić's two-year stay in France, during which time he made 57 Ligue 1 appearances.

Spahić, ever-present in Bosnia and Herzegovina's UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying campaign, also counts NK Zagreb, FC Shinnik Yaroslavl, FC Torpedo Moskva and FC Lokomotiv Moskva among his former clubs. One of the first assignments of his new job in Spain will be a UEFA Europa League play-off tie in late August.
