Kompany sets City's Dynamo target

Defender Vincent Kompany is no doubt as to how Manchester City FC will approach their UEFA Europa League decider against FC Dynamo Kyiv, declaring: "We have a mission and it is to score two or three more goals than them."

The Premier League side head into Thursday's round of 16 second leg with a mountain to climb following last week's 2-0 defeat in Ukraine. The City captain admits his team were taken aback by the quality of their opponents that night, but is adamant they have the strength to put things right in Manchester.

"We knew they were a good team, but on the day there were just very good," said Belgian international Kompany. "We knew their strengths and their weaknesses. I just think we have been caught by surprise. We have not really dealt well with the conditions over there. But we know what we are up against now. I am confident we have enough to go and score goals."

Robert Mancini's men know they must score at least three times over 90 minutes to win the tie, yet the manager insists his side will stick to their normal game rather than resort to all-out attack. "I think we can score, but it is not important that we score after five minutes or after half an hour," he said. "It is important that we play as a team, that we are very strong and that we don't concede a goal."

The hosts will be without full-back Pablo Zabaleta, who is on compassionate leave, but midfielder James Milner should be fit to take a place on the bench following a hamstring injury. Dynamo Kyiv, meanwhile, are shorn of top scorer Artem Milevskiy, who broke a bone in his hand against FC Vorskla Poltava on Sunday. Artem Kravets is likely to deputise.

Goalkeeper Olexandr Shovkovskiy said: "We deserved to win in Kyiv, but the game in England will be completely different. We have to play even better away. Even if we had scored three at home, nothing would be settled. We are happy with our two-goal lead and are looking forward to the game."

Shovkovskiy accepts that City have some great individual players, yet has faith in his team's collective strength. "We can achieve the result with a disciplined defensive performance and swift counterattacking," he added.
