City down but not out for Dynamo's Shevchenko

Andriy Shevchenko was thrilled with FC Dynamo Kyiv's 2-0 UEFA Europa League round of 16 home win against Manchester City FC, but warned his team-mates to expect "a completely different game in Manchester".

The 34-year-old registered his 67th goal in UEFA club competition 25 minutes into the first leg in Ukraine, and Oleh Gusev struck a second for Dynamo 13 minutes from time to leave Roberto Mancini's side with a tall order for the 17 March return. Shenchenko, however, knows his side can ill afford to be complacent in England.

"This was only the first half," said the Ukraine striker. "It will be a completely different game in Manchester. We are very glad to have won; I think our fans really enjoyed this game. What was the most difficult thing? Sticking to our tactical plan. We played very well from a tactical point of view, and I must give full credit to our defenders."

Fellow Dynamo forward Artem Milevskiy added: "This result gives us a big advantage but we still have the second game to come. Nothing is settled yet. We were very well prepared; we studied Manchester City thoroughly and, in my opinion, we won because we played better as a team. We defended together and attacked together."

Having rallied the Dynamo rearguard throughout, Ognjen Vukojević felt optimistic. "We only deserve compliments," said the defensive midfielder. "Now we have to get ready for a very tough return game. We only need to score a goal in Manchester and then we'll go through. If we show the same quality as we did in Kyiv, we'll be in the next round for sure."

City centre-back Joleon Lescott is certain, however, that his side still have the beating of Dynamo. "I'm quite positive," he said. "We know we have to score goals, but that is something which we have been really good at this season. We are confident, but of course we expect a very tough game."

Team-mate Pablo Zabaleta added: "Two-nil is a difficult result for the second leg, but we will be at home so we have to keep our heads up. We conceded two silly goals, but it was a really difficult game; the pitch was so hard. We looked tired because we have had so many games in a very short period, but we aren't looking for excuses. We have to be mentally strong."
