Article body
Club Atlético de Madrid defender Álvaro Domínguez will miss his team's UEFA Europa League Group B encounter with Rosenborg BK on 21 October after damaging ankle ligaments on international duty.
The centre-back opened the scoring but sprained his left ankle in the closing stages of Spain's 3-0 defeat of Croatia in the second leg of their UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-off on Tuesday in Varazdin.
Domínguez returned to the Spanish capital on crutches and underwent tests today, with reports suggesting he could be sidelined for three weeks.
The 21-year-old would therefore also be doubtful for the return fixture against Rosenborg in Trondheim on 4 November. Atlético have made a slow start to the defence of their UEFA Europa League title, collecting one point from games against Aris Thessaloniki FC and Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
