Former Sevilla FC player and coach Manolo Jiménez has agreed to take charge of UEFA Europa League contenders AEK Athens FC, replacing Dušan Bajević who resigned following a 3-1 league defeat by promoted Olympiacos Volou FC on 26 September.
The 46-year-old has accepted a two-year contract and will arrive in the Greek capital on Saturday. The former left-back, capped 15 times by Spain, played for Sevilla between 1984 and 1997 and returned to the Andalusian club as youth team coach. Following Juande Ramos's departure, he took command of the senior team from October 2007 until his dismissal in March this year.
AEK are second in UEFA Europa League Group G with three points from two fixtures, and visit RSC Anderlecht in their next game on 21 October.
