Gregorio Manzano has been unveiled as the new coach of Sevilla FC after Antonio Álvarez was dismissed following Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Hercules CF.
Manzano takes the helm after a successful four-season stay with RCD Mallorca, whom he led to fifth place in the Liga last term before stepping down. The 54-year-old, who also won the 2003 Copa del Rey during his first spell with Los Bermellones, will have to hit the ground running as Sevilla visit Germany to take on Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.
Los Rojiblancos lost their opening Group J fixture against Paris Saint-Germain FC on 16 September, bringing further disappointment following their UEFA Champions League play-off elimination by SC Braga. The Hercules reverse was Sevilla's first in the Liga this season but enough to mark the end for Álvarez after six months in charge. He lifted the Copa del Rey in May.
