NK Dinamo Zagreb have appointed Vahid Halilhodžić as their new coach after the Bosnian agreed a two-and-a-half year contract with the Croatian champions.
The 57-year-old Halilhodžić replaces Velimir Zajec, who was only at the helm for two months before being dismissed. "It's kind of a surprise to me as I only came to Croatia at first on holiday," said Halilhodžić. "However, I am very happy to become Dinamo coach and I have big ambitions with this team."
Dinamo sit sixth in the Croatian top flight after four games and were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by FC Sheriff in the third qualifying round. They travel to Győri ETO FC on Thursday for the first leg of their UEFA Europa League play-off.
"I need to prepare the team for these important matches as soon as possible," added Halilhodžić. His coaching CV includes stints at LOSC Lille Métropole, Stade Rennais FC, Paris Saint-Germain FC, Trabzonspor AŞ and the Ivory Coast national side, whom he left four months before this summer's FIFA World Cup.
