Sporting Clube de Portugal have confirmed the €2m signing of midfielder Alberto Zapater from Genoa CFC, with Miguel Veloso moving in the opposite direction for €9m.
Zapater has penned a five-year deal with the UEFA Europa League contenders, who lead Denmark's FC Nordsjælland 1-0 going into the second leg of their third qualifying round tie on Thursday. The 25-year-old Spaniard scored three goals in 28 Serie A appearances for Genoa in 2009/10 following his transfer from Real Zaragoza last summer.
Veloso, meanwhile, becomes the second Portuguese international to join the Rossoblù this pre-season after SC Braga goalkeeper Eduardo. The 24-year-old leaves the Lisbon club three league appearances shy of a century having made his debut for the Lions in September 2006. Should Sporting qualify for the play-offs they will discover their opponents when the draw is made in Nyon at 13.30CET on Friday.
