Galatasaray AŞ have signed Colombia winger Juan Pablo Pino from AS Monaco FC and given Australia forward Harry Kewell a new one-year contract.
Pino, 23, has agreed a contract, for which details are not revealed, subject to a medical after leaving Monaco for an undisclosed fee. He joined the Ligue 1 club from CD Independiente Medellín in 2007 but had an injury-hit loan spell at Belgian team R. Charleroi SC before making his Monaco breakthrough in 2008, though last season he was not a regular.
He is Galatasaray's second foreign signing of the summer after Albanian Lorik Cana's arrival from English side Sunderland AFC while another overseas international, Kewell, has elected to spend another 12 months at the Istanbul club. The 31-year-old's existing deal expired in May, but the club have announced that he will stay on for another season even though he missed a substantial part of the 2009/10 campaign with a groin injury.
Kewell joined Galatasaray from Liverpool FC in 2008, and has been immensely popular with supporters in Istanbul. A UEFA Champions League winner with the Reds in 2004/05, Kewell has yet to win any major honours with Galatasaray, but impressed as a striker last season in the absence of the injured Milan Baroš. He played at this summer's FIFA World Cup, but was sent off 24 minutes into his only game in South Africa against Ghana.
While Kewell will remain with the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round contenders, Leo Franco will not, with the goalkeeper, 33, having had his contract cancelled by mutual consent. He made 26 league appearances in his only season at the club, and is expected to join Real Zaragoza as a free agent.
Galatasaray will play Serbia's OFK Beograd or FC Torpedo Zhodino of Belarus in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round, playing the first leg at home on 29 July.
