FC Porto have signed Sporting Clube de Portugal captain João Moutinho in an €11m deal that also sees centre-back Nuno André Coelho move in the opposite direction.
The agreement was announced late on Sunday, with 23-year-old Portuguese international midfielder Moutinho committing to his new club until summer 2015 and Sporting receiving 25% of any future transfer over €11m. Porto will themselves retain half of Coelho's sell-on fee after the defender, 24, joined Sporting on a four-year contract.
While Coelho made only one Portuguese Liga appearance for Porto because of season-long loan spells at FC Maia, R. Standard de Liège, Portimonense SC and CF Estrela da Amadora, the home-grown Moutinho was a Sporting talisman. After breaking into the first team during the 2004/05 campaign, the playmaker went on to feature in 163 league games for the Lisbon outfit, scoring 21 goals. Capped 26 times by his country, Moutinho was nevertheless omitted from the Portugal squad for the FIFA World Cup.
