UEFA Europa League play-off hopefuls SC Vaslui have named former Real Madrid CF boss Juan Ramon López Caro as their new coach, challenging him to win next season's Romanian title.
The 47-year-old replaces Marius Lăcătuş, who led Vaslui to a best-ever third placed finish in Romania's top division last term before deciding to move to Spain with his family. López Caro has been charged with winning the Romanian title next season by the club's ambitious owner Adrian Porumboiu, who also expects to see Vaslui in the UEFA Europa League group stage.
López Caro came to global attention after he stepped up from a role with Madrid's reserve team to replace Vanderlei Luxemburgo as Los Merengues coach from December 2005 to July 2006. He has since coached Real Racing Club, Levante UD and RC Celta de Vigo, and worked as Spain Under-21 coach from 2008 until taking on his new posting.
