Fulham leave Gera hungry for more

Zoltán Gera described Fulham FC's performance in their 1-0 victory at VfL Wolfsburg as "perfect" and said his side were "hungry for more" as they clinched a place in the last four of the UEFA Europa League with a 3-1 aggregate triumph against the German champions.

Bobby Zamora's goal inside 25 seconds proved enough for Roy Hodgson's side to win through to their first European semi-final, against Hamburger SV. And the Hungarian international striker, who teed up Zamora for the winner, is already planning a second trip to Hamburg for the final on 12 May.

"It's a great achievement," Gera said. "We played perfectly, we did everything right, from the keeper to Bobby, and fully deserved the result after a very professional performance. We want to play twice at Hamburg's stadium, then who knows what we might achieve."

Gera may have provided the pass to Zamora, but it was the English striker's sublime turn and shot that produced the deciding moment of the tie. It was Zamora's sixth goal of Fulham's UEFA Europa League campaign and further fuelled calls for a call up to Fabio Capello's FIFA World Cup squad. The 29-year-old, though, was keen to deflect attention on to his strike partner's unselfish play.

"I thought Gera was going to shoot but he put a little reverse in and I think the only thing I could do was flick it like that," he said, referring to the delicate touch that took him away from Wolfsburg defender Jan Šimůnek. "I'm pleased with the way it's gone. It was a tough season for me last year in terms of scoring goals and what people were saying but things are going well for me and I'm pleased to have silenced a few people."

Fulham face another strong German side in HSV in the last four and Zamora believes they are now accustomed to playing against such high-calibre opponents. "We know it's going to be a tough match," he said. "They're a good team with some great players but we haven't had the easiest of routes so far so we're going to give it our all and hopefully go through."
