Zvjezdan Misimović will not be upstaged by celebrity Fulham FC fan Hugh Grant as VfL Wolfsburg eye a semi-final place.
Rumours that the Four Weddings And A Funeral star – once, according to legend, an assistant groundsman at Craven Cottage – might be in attendance as the Cottagers defend a 2-1 UEFA Europa League quarter-final lead have kept gossip-mongers in business in Germany. Wolfsburg's attacking midfielder Misimović is refusing to be starstruck, however, saying: "He can come along, but he won't have much to smile about."
Having played in all five of the German champions' games since they moved into the UEFA Europa League from the UEFA Champions League group stage, the Bosnia-Herzegovina international believes his side are in a good position to reach the last four despite last week's defeat in west London, noting: "After [losing] 2-1 in the first leg, we can be happy. We had enough chances at Fulham to be ahead, so we have to make better use of our chances in this game, but the away goal is very important for us."
Misimović insisted that the "English weeks" – the German phrase which refers to sides forced play games in midweek as well as at weekends – thrown up by his side's busy European schedule had not left Wolfsburg too jaded, but urged caution ahead of the Fulham decider. "We cannot just storm forward, devil may care, from the kick-off," he said. "We are very motivated; we have a massive chance to make it to the semi-finals, and that's what we want to do."
