Hamburger SV can still dream of winning the inaugural UEFA Europa League on home territory as they are among the eight teams in the draw for the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals and semi-finals at 13.00CET on Friday.

After a thrilling night of round of 16 second leg action on Thursday that produced 34 goals across eight matches, Hamburg, Club Atlético de Madrid, Fulham FC, Liverpool FC, R. Standard de Liège, SL Benfica, Valencia CF and VfL Wolfsburg went through, with the likes of Juventus, Olympique de Marseille and last season's UEFA Cup runners-up Werder Bremen missing out. The draw will be made in Nyon by UEFA competitions director Giorgio Marchetti and Hamburg final ambassador Uwe Seeler.

Of the quarter-finalists, Liverpool won a joint-record three UEFA Cups while Valencia also tasted success in the tournament. Atlético, Benfica and Hamburg have lifted major European club trophies while Standard reached a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final, but Fulham and Wolfsburg have never progressed so far in a major UEFA competition. Half the teams – Atlético, Liverpool, Wolfsburg and Standard – transferred from the UEFA Champions League group stage.

At this stage of the tournament, no teams are seeded and clubs from the same national association can be drawn against each other. The quarter-finals are played on a home-and-away basis on 1 and 8 April, with the semi-finals on 22 and 29 April. This season's final will be at the Hamburg Arena at 20.45CET on Wednesday 12 May.
