Bremen waiting on Frings and Özil

Midfielders Torsten Frings and Mesut Özil are doubtful for the second leg of Werder Bremen's round of 16 tie against Valencia CF on Thursday due to hip and spinal problems respectively.

Werder Bremen could be without influential midfielders Torsten Frings and Mesut Özil for the UEFA Europa League round of 16 decider at home to Valencia CF on Thursday.

Frings damaged his hip in Sunday's 1-0 win at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and missed training on Monday to undergo treatment. The Bundesliga club have not put a date on the likely return for the 33-year-old, who opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 1-1 first-leg draw last week. Özil did not feature against Hoffenheim because of a spinal problem, although Bremen expect the 21-year-old to return "very soon".
