UEFA Europa League challengers Villarreal CF have moved quickly to announce a successor to departing coach Ernesto Valverde with Juan Carlos Garrido given the task of lifting the fortunes of the Yellow Submarine.
Valverde took charge at El Madrigal following Manuel Pellegrini's departure to Real Madrid CF last summer, but after the team suffered its eighth Liga defeat of the season to CA Osasuna on Sunday a decision was made to bring an end to the former Olympiacos FC manager's tenure at the club.
Shortly afterwards it was agreed that Villarreal B-team coach Garrido would take over first-team affairs until the end of the season. The 40-year-old has enjoyed considerable success with the club's youth side, earning promotion to the Spanish second tier last term.
