R. Standard de Liège have brought Belgian international left-back Sébastien Pocognoli back to the club from AZ Alkmaar for an undisclosed fee, the 22-year-old having started his career as a trainee with Les Rouches.
'Glad' to be back
Pocognoli, who has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with his hometown team, never made an appearance for Standard, however, and joined KRC Genk in 2003. There he featured 46 times in the league prior to moving to AZ in 2007, appearing twice against his new employers in the UEFA Champions League group stage earlier this term. Pocognoli said: "I am glad to be able to return to the club who raised me. It is nice to live close to my family again, but that is not the reason I returned. I hope I can be of added value for Standard as soon as possible." László Bölöni's charges play FC Salzburg in the round of 32 on 18 and 25 February.
