Sporting Clube de Portugal have signed Mozambique central defender Mexer from GD Maputo on a two-and-a-half year contract as they look ahead to playing in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 in the spring.
'My club'
The 21-year-old, full name Edson André Sitoe, is Sporting's first signing of the winter, and said: "It's a big dream to play for Sporting as they have always been my club. I am very happy and I hope to show my class." Mexer will be competing with Mozambique at the African Cup of Nations in Angola from 10 to 31 January. Sporting conclude their Group D campaign against Hertha BSC Berlin on Wednesday having already sealed first place in the section and a seeded place in Friday's round of 32 draw in Nyon.
