Fortune favours Barış's Fenerbahçe

Deniz Barış knows Fenerbahçe SK rode their luck as a 1-0 win at FC Twente put them in the round of 32 as Group H winners, noting: "They could have scored; maybe we were lucky that they didn't."

Deniz Barış admitted Fenerbahçe SK had ridden their luck to secure the 1-0 win at FC Twente which ensured the Turkish club progressed to the round of 32 as winners of UEFA Europa League Group H.

Good fortune
Diego Lugano's goal 19 minutes from full-time means Twente must win their final game at FC Steaua Bucureşti to be absolutely certain of going through, although if Fenerbahçe beat FC Sherriff on Matchday 6, Twente will advance even if they lose in Romania. "They could have scored; maybe we were lucky that they didn't," Barış told uefa.com. "They played really well. They are organised and pass the ball effectively, and they have good players with technical ability."

Attacking intentions
"It was a tough game against a good team," acknowledged Lugano. "Twente are attack-minded like us, and we definitely came here looking for a victory. So, in that respect, it's not surprising that we won here and they took the three points in Istanbul."

'It's heartbreaking'
Twente defender David Carney, meanwhile, bemoaned his side's fate, and said: "It's heartbreaking when you do everything but score. Our tactics were good, we played really well, and sometimes it's just about luck." Carney's team-mate Kenneth Perez, meanwhile, has already set his sights on Twente's trip to Romania on Matchday 6. "It was tight, we had chances and so did they," said the midfielder. "It was a game that would always be decided by the first goal. They are one of the better teams in Europe, and scored from a set piece, which happens a lot at this level. Now we just have to finish the job in Bucharest."
