FC Twente will be looking to wrest top spot in UEFA Europa League Group H away from Fenerbahçe SK, with both sides potentially able to qualify for the last 32 on Matchday 5.
• Twente will book their place if they win and FC Sheriff fail to take three points at home against FC Steaua Bucureşti. Fenerbahçe will advance as group winners if they come out on top in Enschede.
Previous meetings
• Twente won 2-1 in Istanbul on Matchday 1 in their first game against a Turkish side. Fenerbahçe are still looking for a first success in their eighth trip to the Netherlands, but following five defeats in their first five games on Dutch soil they have drawn their last two away fixtures against Eredivisie outfits.
Match background
• Twente have lost just once in 13 games at their current home, the successor to the old Diekman Stadium, going down 1-0 to Olympique de Marseille in last term's UEFA Cup round of 32. Their 2-0 loss to Arsenal FC in that season's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round took place at the Gelredome in Arnhem.
• Unbeaten in four European fixtures on their travels, Fenerbahçe have won their last three UEFA Europa League away encounters without conceding a goal.
Team facts
• Twente coach Steve McClaren was a UEFA Cup runner-up as Middlesbrough FC manager in 2005/06. Once Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant at Manchester United FC, his reputation was undermined by a disappointing spell as England manager when his team missed out on UEFA EURO 2008™. However, he demonstrated his coaching acumen when Twente finished second in the Eredivisie last season, his first in the Netherlands.
• McClaren signed an extension to his contract on 27 October, committing to the Enschede club until the end of the 2010/11 season.
• German coach Christoph Daum returned from 1. FC Köln for a second spell at the Fenerbahçe helm this summer. Celebrated in Germany for earning three Bundesliga runners-up slots with Bayer 04 Leverkusen and two with Köln, he twice coached Fener's local rivals Beşiktaş before claiming two titles in his first spell at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium between 2003 and 2006.
• Daum's best European season to date came in his first spell as Köln coach, when his side reached the semi-finals of the 1989/90 UEFA Cup, losing out to eventual winners Juventus.
• McClaren's assistant Kees van Wonderen played against Fenerbahçe with Feyenoord in a 2002/03 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie, the Rotterdam club prevailing 1-0 at home and 2-0 in Turkey.
• Twente's Danish midfielder Kenneth Perez faced Fenerbahçe twice in the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League group stage with PSV Eindhoven. His side drew 0-0 at home, before going down 2-0 at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
• Twente visit Steaua on Matchday 6, with Fenerbahçe at home against Sheriff on the same night, 17 December.
