Late goals from Marc Janko and Franz Schiemer gave FC Salzburg a stunning victory over S.S. Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in their opening Group G match.

Rome debut
Substitute Pasquale Foggia had given the home side the lead with a long-range strike on 59 minutes in a UEFA Europa League meeting of few clear-cut chances. Yet the Austrian side, playing their first competitive match in Rome, hit back on 82 minutes and then three minutes into added time as the hosts pushed for a winner.

Salzburg chances
It was the visitors who carved out the best chances of a largely subdued first half, Christoph Leitgeb enjoying an opening early on. Albano Bizzarri held on but was forced into a scrambling save after Cribari's skewed clearance from Dušan Švento's centre almost crept in at the near post. Lazio's offerings at the other end were limited to two tame Julio Cruz efforts, easily saved by Eddie Gustafsson.

Foggia impact
Davide Ballardini's introduction of Foggia at half-time galvanised the home side. Put clear on the right, the Italian international missed by centimetres on his unfavoured right foot. The busy Mauro Zárate twice came close to giving the home side the lead, first skimming the post before cutting in from the left and forcing Gustafsson into a fine low save. The Swedish custodian was beaten just shy of the hour mark, though, after Foggia picked up the ball 25 metres out and quickly struck a top-spinning drive low into the corner.

Composed strikes
The Austrian titleholders had produced little in the second period until eight minutes from time when Bizzarri could only push Robin Nelisse's header into the path of Schiemer who calmly side-footed in. Silenced, the Lazio fans were stunned as Janko was left alone by the penalty spot to find the same corner with another cool left-footed finish.
