Hertha BSC Berlin have been shorn of Florian Kringe for their UEFA Europa League opener against FK Ventspils on Thursday after the on-loan midfielder broke his foot in the 2-1 defeat by 1. FSV Mainz 05.

Bitter blow
Kringe, 27, is on a season-long loan from BV Borussia Dortmund but is now facing a lengthy absence having been forced off just 13 minutes into his Hertha debut on Saturday. News of a break was confirmed on Sunday, meaning Kringe could now be on the sidelines for up to eight weeks. "It's a bitter blow for both him and for the team," said Hertha sporting director Michael Preetz.
