UEFA Europa League contenders SL Benfica have made their ninth signing of the summer with the addition of the versatile César Peixoto from SC Braga.
Honours
The 29-year-old, who can play at left-back, on the wing or in central midfield, has arrived for an undisclosed fee on a reported contract until 2012. Capped once by Portugal last year, he made his Liga debut against Benfica in September 2001 for CF Os Belenenses and moved to Porto the following season, winning the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, Portuguese Liga and Cup. He joined Braga in 2007, helping them to the UEFA Cup Rounds of 32 and 16 respectively in the last two seasons.
'Dream come true'
Peixoto follows Patrick, José Alberto Schaffer, Javier Saviola, Ramires, Javi García, Weldon, Keirrison and Júlio César in joining a club now coached by a man who has also left Braga for Benfica, Jorge Jesus. "I have come to help Benfica win the title," said Peixoto. "It's a dream come true. The squad has a lot of quality." Benfica play Ukrainian side FC Vorskla Poltava in the UEFA Europa League play-off round on 20 and 27 August but first begin their new Liga campaign on Sunday at home against CS Marítimo.
