Cautious optimism for coaches after Paris draw

Both coaches expressed guarded satisfaction after Paris Saint-Germain FC's goalless UEFA Cup quarter-final first-leg draw with FC Dynamo Kyiv at Parc des Princes. PSG chief Paul Le Guen hailed the spirit that prevented an away goal while Yuri Semin is hoping the Dynamo fans can make the difference next Thursday with a view to setting up a potential all-Ukrainian semi-final against FC Shakhtar Donetsk, who won 2-0 at home to Olympique de Marseille.

We achieved the first target which was to avoid conceding. We had some opportunities to score and managed to worry them a bit but it was difficult. Kyiv are a really good team. I'm a bit frustrated, I wish we had won 1-0 or 2-0 but the most important thing is that my players showed a lot of determination. It is going to be difficult in the second leg. [Artem] Kravets will be back and he's a very good player. They are a very technical team that apply a lot of pressure. We missed some good chances but everything remains possible. The result is not so bad. [I rested Ludovic Giuly because] I like to use him once a week because I think that is more efficient. [In the second leg] we will have to be more efficient in attack and keep organised and disciplined from a tactical point of view, because otherwise we have no hope. We need to take our chances.

I'm generally satisfied with the night. With many players missing, we kept our chances alive for the second leg. We have not heard anything about Shakhtar's win but it's obviously too early to say that there will be an all-Ukrainian semi-final, we just want to focus on this match. We think that the second leg will be easier for us but Paris did not play at full strength tonight. It will be a very difficult game anyway as they are a very well-organised team and some of their best players were on the bench, so we have to watch our task. The fans were fantastic for their team here. I can just hope our fans will do the same next week to help us advance. Our attack wasn't good enough. We are usually more efficient in this area and we will have to threaten more in order to score.
