Jol salutes Hamburg's attacking verve

Hamburger SV coach Martin Jol lauded his side's second-half performance after they came from behind to beat Manchester City FC in their UEFA Cup quarter-final first leg 3-1. His counterpart Mark Hughes, whose side had scored after 35 seconds when Robinho set up Stephen Ireland, insisted City could turn the tables on their German rivals in next Thursday's decider, though, saying "we aren't finished yet".

If we exclude the first minute, it was a good performance by my team. In the second half we played much better. We created many chances and in the end we seized three of them. In the first minute we forgot to keep an eye on Robinho and paid the price for that – he is such a brilliant player. You have to double-mark him when he gets the ball. If you don't do that, he will punish you and that is what he did. Manchester City did start very well, but overall I am very happy about our performance and the result. We now have the chance to get to the semi-finals.

Well, it will be difficult at 3-1, but we have already shown in several matches that we can pull it back. There’s no question that the situation is not an easy one, because we also have players struggling with a number of injuries such as Craig Bellamy and Shaun Wright-Phillips. But we have to be positive for the second match as anything is possible and tonight we have shown that we can cause Hamburg problems. I’ve have always said that Shay [Given] is an outstanding goalkeeper. He is paid to make big saves and that is what he did. First we have to look at our next match in the Premier League this weekend, but after that we will be fully committed for the second leg against Hamburg. Although Hamburg are a very strong side, we aren't finished yet.
