VfL Wolfsburg know that nothing less than two goals will do as they look to cancel out a 2-0 deficit against Paris Saint-Germain FC in their UEFA Cup Round of 32 decider in Germany.
• Guillaume Hoarau struck twice late on to give PSG victory in a game which was attended by French president Nicolas Sarkozy.
• The first leg was the two sides' first meeting in European club competition.
• Wolfsburg have now played nine European matches against French opposition. Their overall record reads W1 D4 L4 while their four competitive home games against French sides have ended W1 D2 L1.
• Wolfsburg have now failed to win in seven games against Ligue 1 teams since defeating CS Sedan-Ardennes in Germany on 22 July 2000 in the UEFA Intertoto Cup third round.
• Wolfsburg boss Felix Magath had a mixed record against French sides during his playing days. The midfielder helped the former West Germany beat France 2-0 in the semi-finals of the 1986 FIFA World Cup Mexico, but can look back on just W1 D0 L2 from three games against French clubs with Hamburger SV.
• While at the helm of Hamburg, Werder Bremen and VfB Stuttgart, he accrued just one win and four defeats from five games against French opposition. Magath's only success was Stuttgart's 2-0 victory over LOSC Lille Métropole in the final matches of the 2002 UEFA Intertoto Cup.
• This will be PSG's ninth game against a German outfit. Their record in their first eight matches against German clubs reads W5 D0 L3.
• PSG have lost their last three away games against Bundesliga opposition since a 1-0 win at FC Bayern München on 23 November 1994 in Group B of the UEFA Champions League.
• PSG coach Paul Le Guen played in four of PSG's six meetings against Bayern in European competition, emerging victorious three times. The former defender will have unhappy memories of his last game against the Bavarian outfit, a 5-1 away defeat in the group stage of the 1997/98 UEFA Champions League.
• PSG lost 3-1 at FC Schalke 04 in their opening Group A fixture in this season's UEFA Cup. That remains their only competitive game against a Bundesliga side other than Bayern.
• It was also the first time Le Guen had tasted defeat against a German club since his coaching career began. During his tenure at the helm of Olympique Lyonnais, Les Gones claimed three wins and a draw from four games against German opposition.
• Wolfsburg's injured Brazilian forward Grafite played in Ligue 1 with UC Le Mans 72 from 2005 to 2007 in what was his first spell with a European club.
• In the second of his seasons at Le Mans, he played alongside Benin-born midfielder Stéphane Sessegnon, now at PSG. Le Mans finished that campaign in 12th place in Ligue 1, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the French League Cup. There they lost 1-0 to eventual beaten finalists Lyon.
• Prior to the first leg, Wolfsburg were unbeaten in six European games home and away since a 4-0 UEFA Intertoto Cup semi-final defeat to Ligue 1 side RC Lens on 3 August 2005 – a run of four wins and two draws.
• Wolfsburg have gone six European home matches without defeat since a 3-2 reverse against FC Thun in the second round of the 2004 UEFA Intertoto Cup.
• Wolfsburg have never been involved in a penalty shoot-out in UEFA club competition.
• In their only penalty shoot-out to date in UEFA club competition, PSG lost 4-3 on spot-kicks at home against Rangers FC in the third round of the 2001/02 UEFA Cup.
• French League Cup holders PSG qualified for the Round of 32 as third-placed finishers in Group A. Wolfsburg, fifth in the Bundesliga in 2007/08, topped Group E.
• Péguy Luyindula is PSG's top scorer in Europe this season with four goals. Edin Džeko and Zvjezdan Misimović are Wolfsburg's top marksmen, having also scored four goals each.
• Wolfsburg's Josué is suspended for this game, while Makoto Hasebe and Marcel Schäfer are within a booking of a one-match ban, as is PSG's Luyindula.
• The victorious side in this tie will take on the winner of the fixture between SC Braga and R. Standard de Liège in the Round of 16 on 12 and 18/19 March, playing the first leg at home.
