Paris Saint-Germain FC were rewarded for their striking masterclass against FC Twente as they leapfrogged Real Racing Club to take a place in the Round of 32.

Dramatic twist
With the Santander side 3-0 up against group winners Manchester City FC, an impressive performance against Steve McClaren's men was capped by the decisive fourth goal, scored by Péguy Luyindula four minutes from time. That strike ensured that PSG moved above Racing on goals scored, with the two teams having identical +2 goal differences before Felipe Caicedo's late consolation for City. PSG will face a group winner from another section in the next phase of the tournament.

Defensive mix-up
PSG had the victory sewn up by half-time as they took advantage of the visitors' defensive shortcomings. Two Twente defenders collided in the box while going for the same ball after just eight minutes to leave Luyindula unchallenged as he opened the scoring with a shot from just inside the area. Marko Arnautovic and Romano Denneboom then carved out chances for the visitors, but to no avail.

Sessegnon strike
PSG remained the more incisive side and doubled their lead midway through the first half. Stéphane Sessegnon, a menace to the Dutch side throughout, exchanged passes with Mateja Kežman before stroking a low, left-footed shot past Sander Boschker from a narrow angle. Kežman set up Sessegnon again before the break, but he lingered too long over his shot and saw it smothered.

Final flurry
Cheik Tioté twice tried his luck for Twente after the interval, before Kežman had a penalty saved by Boschker, following Edson Braafheid's foul on Luyindula. However, PSG's ship came in as the final whistle approached. First Kežman turned home a Ceará cross before Luyindula scored the fourth, feinting to commit Bocshker after being played through before tapping the ball into an empty net.
