Club Brugge KV will look to progress to the UEFA Cup Round of 32 at the expense of visitors FC København on Matchday 5, with anything other than a defeat ensuring the Belgian side a place in the next stage of the competition.

• Club Brugge drew 1-1 at Valencia CF on Matchday 4 while København held Rosenborg BK by the same score at home. Those results conspired to send Valencia through and eliminate Rosenborg.

• Club Brugge will qualify if they avoid defeat against København, and could even finish second in the section if they win and Valencia do not at AS Saint-Etienne in the evening's other Group G game.

• København can only progress if they win.

• Final standings play an important part in the Round of 32 draw. Group winners will be paired with third-placed sides from other UEFA Cup sections, while second-placed finishers will be drawn against one of the eight sides who finished third in the UEFA Champions League groups. The UEFA Cup group winners and runners-up will play the second leg at home.

• This is Club Brugge and København's first meeting. The Belgian side never came up against B1903 Kobenhavn or Kjøbenhavns BK – the two sides that merged to form FC København.

• Club Brugge have played four games against Danish sides with their record reading W2 D1 L1. Their two home meetings with Danish clubs ended in a win and a draw.

• This is København's first game against a Belgian side.

• Club Brugge coach Jacky Mathijssen has never come up against Danish opponents before, while København trainer Ståle Solbakken's only previous experience of Belgian opposition was a substitute appearance in a 2-0 home defeat his Norway side suffered in a 2000 friendly game against Belgium.

• Club Brugge's South African midfielder Elrio van Heerden started his career at København, initially attending their football school in Port Elizabeth before moving to Denmark in 2002. He joined Club Brugge in January 2006.

• København's Brazilian forward José Junior started his career in Belgium at KSK Beveren.

• Four of Club Brugge's last six European home games have ended in 1-1 draws, with a 2-0 win and a 2-1 loss in the other fixtures. They are unbeaten in two UEFA Cup home games this season, securing a win and a draw.

• København are unbeaten in four UEFA Cup away games this term, having won three and drawn one.

• Club Brugge's Wesley Sonck plus København's William Kvist and Zdeněk Pospěch are within a booking of a one-match suspension.

• The draw for the UEFA Cup Round of 32 (when teams from the same association cannot be drawn against each other) and Round of 16 will be held at UEFA Headquarters in Nyon on Friday 19 December at 13.00CET.
