Hamburger SV booked their passage to the UEFA Cup Round of 32 thanks to a 2-0 win at SK Slavia Praha which ended the Czech side's chances of qualifying.

Double act
Goals in either half from Croatian internationals Ivica Olić and Mladen Petrić settled the contest in favour of the visitors from Germany, who now have six points from three games in Group F. Slavia, who had goalkeeper Martin Vaniak sent off in stoppage time, bow out of the competition with a match still to play.

Family affair
In a game where Hamburg captain David Jarolím came up against a Slavia team coached by his father Karel and including his cousin Marek Jarolím, both sides found it hard to create openings. Olić headed wide and Alex Silva had a long-range effort for the Bundesliga outfit, while at the other end, Slavia initially struggled to trouble Hamburg keeper Frank Rost.

Olić opener
Olić finally made the breakthrough on the half-hour when he pounced on a half-blocked shot from Petrić. Rost was then called into action for the first time as he tipped over David Hubáček's 25-metre drive shortly before half-time. Slavia attempted to up the pace after the interval but Rost was equal to the task, denying Marek Jarolím whose header was the Czech champions' best effort. Vaniak, meanwhile, saved from Silva, before HSV made the points safe in added time when David Jarolím was brought down in the area by the home custodian. The Slavia player was dismissed, defender Erich Brabec went in goal, and Petrić fired his penalty unerringly into the bottom corner.
