Pauleta is to rejoin Paris Saint-Germain FC, the club he left in the summer after scoring a record 109 goals, in an ambassadorial and supervisory role after confirming his retirement from playing.
Cup glory
The 35-year-old became only the second player after Dominique Rocheteau to register 100 goals in PSG colours last November, and added nine more to his tally before ending a five-season stay at the Parc des Princes. That spell included two French Cup triumphs and another in the League Cup. The club were keen to keep Pauleta involved, however, and have offered him a position in Alain Roche's scouting department.
Offering advice
"Pauleta will look at players in Spain and Portugal who could be of interest to PSG, and we'll also ask him to train and offer advice to our young forwards at the academy," said Charles Villeneuve. The PSG president also revealed that there would be opportunities for the fans to show their gratitude to the forward, with a series of events featuring the Portuguese planned for between 31 May and 5 June next year.
Portuguese mark
Pauleta is also Portugal's all-time leading marksman, an incredible achievement considering he is the only player from the Azores to have represented the national team and given he never played a top-flight game in his homeland. He made his international debut against Armenia in August 1997 and went on to hit 47 goals in 88 matches, passing Eusébio's record of 41 against Latvia in October 2005. Pauleta also played for FC Girondins de Bordeaux, RC Deportivo La Coruña, UD Salamanca and GD Estoril-Praia.
