Valencia eye Rosenborg revenge

Valencia CF will look to make amends for two humiliating UEFA Champions League defeats as they take on Rosenborg BK in Trondheim in their second UEFA Cup Group G fixture.

• Rosenborg and Valencia met twice in the UEFA Champions League group stage last season, and while both sides had different coaches in the two matches, the outcome was the same both times, with Rosenborg winning 2-0 in Trondheim and by the same scoreline at the Mestalla Stadium.

• Knut Tørum's Rosenborg beat a Valencia team coached by Quique Sánchez Flores – now in charge of SL Benfica – in the first fixture, Yssouf Koné and Vidar Riseth getting the goals.

• By the time they met in Spain, just a fortnight later, Trond Henriksen was in charge at Rosenborg and Ronald Koeman had replaced Sánchez Flores, but this time Steffen Iversen scored both goals in another 2-0 win for the Norwegian side.

• The teams for their meeting on 24 October 2007 in Trondheim were:

• Those two defeats against Rosenborg represent Valencia's only experience of Norwegian opposition.

• In contrast Rosenborg have played 16 games against Spanish teams, winning five, drawing three and losing eight. Of their eight home games against Liga opponents they have won four, drawn one and lost three.

• For the two sides' third meeting in just over a year they will once more line up with different coaches. Swede Erik Hamrén is now in charge at Rosenborg while Valencia are led by Unai Emery.

• Hamrén has some experience of Spanish opposition. His Aalborg BK side lost 2-1 at home against Getafe CF in last season's UEFA Cup group stage, while back in 1997, his AIK Solna outfit went down 3-1 at FC Barcelona and drew 1-1 at home in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup quarter-finals.

• Valencia's Pablo Hernández scored Getafe's first goal in that game against Hamrén's AaB.

• Rosenborg and Valencia have picked up a point apiece so far. Rosenborg held Club Brugge KV to a goalless draw on Matchday 1, while Valencia drew 1-1 at home against FC København two weeks later.

• This will be Rosenborg's eleventh European game of the season, having started their campaign in the second round of the UEFA Intertoto Cup. They are the only side left in the tournament to have started the campaign so early.

• Of their ten 2008/09 European engagements so far, the Norwegian side have won six, drawn one and lost three, with their five home games bringing them four wins and a draw.

• Valencia's David Albelda, Iván Helguera and David Villa are all within a booking of a one-match suspension.

• Club Brugge KV face AS Saint-Etienne in Matchday 3's other Group G tie. København are the only side in the section not in action.
