Aleksei Berezutski's header eight minutes before half-time was enough to confirm the 2005 UEFA Cup champions' place in the group stage draw.

First-leg advantage
The CSKA defender rose to power in Caner Erkin's cross shortly before half-time, just reward for a dominant first-half performance by the hosts as they built on their 2-1 win in Koprivnica a fortnight ago. That triumph allowed CSKA coach Valeri Gazzaev to start with Chidi Odiah and Yuri Zhirkov on the bench, but even after going ahead in Moscow it was the home side that were doing all the running. Vágner Love missed a golden chance to double the lead shortly before half-time, and though Mato Jajalo came close after the restart and Vasili Berezutski made a timely goalline clearance, the Russian side booked their place in the group stage.
