Physiotheraphy attempt
The 22-year-old Spanish international sustained the injury during Valencia's Spanish Liga opener against RCD Mallorca on 30 August, with the Mestalla club announcing earlier this week that Silva was "suffering chronic inflammation" to the joint. Because the problem failed to respond to physiotherapy, the decision was then taken to operate. Valencia coach Unai Emery said: "His recovery is the important thing now. An operation was inevitable and we wish David the very best so he can return to action as soon as possible." Copa del Rey holders Valencia visit Portugal's CS Marítimo in the UEFA Cup first round on 18 September.
