Signal of ambition
The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the English Premier League club, with City manager Mark Hughes saying: "We've given notice of our intent by making this signing. We want to push the club forward and show people around the world what is happening at Manchester City. The acquisition of quality players like Jô will help this process and I can't stress how delighted we are."

UEFA Cup qualifier
The forward, who scored 30 goals in 53 Russian Premier-Liga games after joining CSKA from SC Corinthians Paulista in 2005, had long been courted by City. Capped once by Brazil in June 2007, Jô could make an early debut for City, as they will play EB/Streymur of the Faroe Islands in the UEFA Cup first qualifying round on 17 and 31 July. His new side entered the competition through the Fair Play rankings.

Thanks to CSKA
"It was really hard for me to leave CSKA, as this club is like a big family," said Jô, who won the Russian double in 2006 to add to his Brazilian title with home-town team Corinthians the previous year. "During my time in Moscow I really improved as a player and built a good reputation in European football."
