Everton FC manager David Moyes is demanding that his players at least do themselves justice in Wednesday's meeting with ACF Fiorentina at Goodison Park.

Room for improvement
Everton go into the second leg of their UEFA Cup Round of 16 tie playing catch-up – they trail the Italian club 2-0 after a display last week which, by Moyes's admission, was not good enough. Only a significant improvement will do if the English side are to undo the damage caused by goals in the last 20 minutes in Florence from Zdravko Kuzmanović and Riccardo Montolivo.

'Game is not lost'
"It wasn't a good performance, we know that, but we are not going to beat ourselves up over it," Moyes said. "We never reached the standards we have set for ourselves and we want to show we are better. I can't deny they deserved to win [the first leg] but the game is not lost by any means." Everton returned to type in the Premier League on Sunday, winning 1-0 at Sunderland AFC to go level on points with fourth-placed Liverpool FC. That match also resulted in "bumps and bruises" which make Tim Cahill and Steven Pienaar fitness doubts along with Leon Osman, Manuel Fernandes and Nuno Valente.

Siena surprise
The Fiorentina injured list reads: Franco Semioli, Fabio Liverani and Adrian Mutu, so Christian Vieri should start in attack with support from Alberto Santana and Pablo Daniel Osvaldo. Cesare Prandelli's team will also want to be more like their normal selves on Merseyside, after Serie A's fourth-placed club lost 1-0 at AC Siena on Sunday. Defender Dario Dainelli said: "Against Everton, we will have to use the lessons learned in Siena – to make fewer defensive errors while being more clinical in front of goal. We have a tough battle ahead and we are looking forward to it."

'Stand together'
Leading the rallying cry, Everton manager Moyes hopes, will be a capacity Goodison crowd. "We know that our crowd can make a really big difference – I felt last week the Fiorentina fans had an influence on the result. The supporters are part of our team, we stand together, and with the bigger games coming around now, we cannot let our standards drop."
