Tottenham Hotspur FC have confirmed that Welsh international left-back Gareth Bale will miss the rest of the season as he continues his recuperation from a foot injury.
Operation
The 18-year-old suffered a sprained ligament in his right foot in the Premier League match against Birmingham City FC on 2 December. He underwent surgery and while the cast has now been removed, he is not expected back in action until August.
Long-term view
"Gareth's injury was reviewed today and although the surgeon was happy with the results of the scans, he does not anticipate Gareth being able to play any further part this season," said sporting director Damien Comolli, whose side face SK Slavia Praha in the UEFA Cup Round of 32 on 14 and 21 February. "We are all disappointed for Gareth, but he is still very young and his long-term fitness is our priority."
