Tottenham Hotspur FC announced this afternoon that their Welsh international left-back Gareth Bale faces "at least three months" on the sidelines recovering from the foot injury he sustained in a recent Premier League fixture.

UEFA Cup progress
The 18-year-old was injured in the 3-2 home defeat by Birmingham City FC on 2 December and did not feature as Spurs progressed to the UEFA Cup Round of 32 last Thursday. Sporting director Damien Comolli said: "Gareth Bale will undergo an examination of his right foot to determine the severity of his sprained ligament.

'Obviously disappointed'
"Even if the examination reveals that his foot is stable the decision has been taken to bring him back slowly to ensure he does not get a repeat of the injury or suffers any further damage. Gareth is obviously disappointed to be sidelined for this length of time but he is still young and we have to do what is best for him in the long run." Spurs will learn their next UEFA Cup opponents on Friday 21 December, with the knockout rounds due to begin on 13/14 February.
