Braga seek decisive victory

A two-goal win will send SC Braga through to the UEFA Cup Round of 32 as they look to avenge an old defeat against eliminated FK Crvena Zvezda in their final Group F fixture.

• Braga may still be smarting from their last encounter with Crvena Zvezda in the first round of the 2005/06 UEFA Cup, as the then Serbo-Montenegrin side denied them a place in the group stage on away goals.

• After holding Walter Zenga's side to a 0-0 draw in Belgrade, Jesualdo Ferreira's Braga went a goal behind after ten minutes to Milan Purović's strike in Portugal, with Jaime Júnior's equaliser four minutes from time proving to be too little too late.

• Five members of the current Braga side were involved in that tie. Goalkeeper Paulo Santos and midfielder Vandinho played in both legs, forward João Tomás in the first but not the second, defender Paulo Jorge came off the bench in both matches while Castanheira was an unused substituted in the second game.

• Only four members of the current Crvena Zvezda squad played in that tie. Goalkeeper Ivan Randeljović played in the first game but was an unused substitute in Portugal. Defender Dušan Basta came on as a sub in the home leg and started the away leg. Midfielder Dejan Milovanović was an unused substitute in the first leg but came off the bench in the second. Milanko Rašković was not on the team list for the home leg, but was an unused substitute in Braga.

• Crvena Zvezda's João Lucas will return to his homeland when he plays against Braga.

• Those games represent Braga's only experience of Serbian opposition.

• In addition to playing against Braga, Crvena Zvezda took on SL Benfica in the 1984/85 European Champion Clubs' Cup, winning 3-2 in Belgrade but losing 2-0 in Lisbon. Thus they are yet to win a game on Portuguese soil.

• Braga have drawn all three of their Group F ties to date 1-1 – against Bolton Wanderers FC and FC Aris Thessaloniki away and FC Bayern München at home – but will make sure of a place in the knockout stage if they win their final fixture by two goals, as this will see them better Bolton's goal difference.

• Like Crvena Zvezda they have changed coach since the start of the campaign. Manuel Machado replaced Jorge Costa at the Portuguese side while Aleksandar Janković replaced Milorad Kosanović as Crvena Zvezda coach.

• Crvena Zvezda are already out of the competition, with defeats in all three of their games. They would need a three-goal margin of victory to rise off the foot of the Group F table.

• Braga forward Wender and Crvena Zvezda midfielder Ognjen Koroman both go into the game knowing another yellow card would mean a one-match suspension.

• Bayern are at home against Aris in Wednesday's other Group F game.

• The draw for the Round of 32 and Round of 16 will be held in Nyon on 21 December from 13.00 CET.
