AaB upstaged on Laudrup homecoming

Getafe CF are within sight of a place in the Round of 32 after winning 2-1 against Aalborg BK on coach Michael Laudrup's return to his native Denmark.

Hernández opener
Getafe started strongly and went ahead on ten minutes. Manu sent in a deep cross from the right and Pablo Hernández was on hand to chest the ball home from close-range. Two minutes later, the Spanish side almost doubled their lead as Manu glanced a header just wide, and AaB keeper Karim Zaza then did well to keep out a stinging Lucas Licht drive. At the other end, Thomas Enevoldsen flashed an angled shot just wide as AaB searched for a way back into the game. Getafe keeper Pato also had to be alert to push behind a Rade Prica effort just before the break.

Fine finish
After the interval, Manu twice came close to extending his side's lead, firing just wide on 49 minutes and hitting his next effort straight at Zaza. Braulio was also denied in a one-on-one with Zaza and Hernández shot over from outside the area as Getafe went in search of a second. It finally arrived on 77 minutes when Esteban Granero held off several AaB defenders before firing a dipping right-footed shot over Zaza and into the keeper's far-right corner.

Final step
The Danis side scored an added-time consolation goal when Prica headed past Pato from close range, but could not prevent a defeat which ends their challenge in the competition ahead of their final game at Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC on 19 December. Getafe now have six points and need only avoid defeat in their final game at home against RSC Anderlecht to be sure of a place in the knockout stage in their first season on European competition.
