Jørgensen double
The Viola lead Villarreal CF on goal difference, the two sides on four points having drawn their opening encounter before wins today. Martin Jørgensen put Fiorentina after just four minutes before Christian Vieri doubled their advantage a minute later. Stefan Ishizaki scored just before the break to give the visitors a fighting chance but two goals in three second-half minutes from Marco Donadel and Per Krøldrup killed off the game before Jørgensen and Samuele Di Carmine completed Elfsborg's humbling.
Early goals
Fiorentina, who have yet to lose a game this season, scored from their first attack of the game. Franco Semioli crossed into the area and Jørgensen rifled a fierce 16-metre shot into the top-right corner for his first goal of the season. And the visitors were two down within a minute, Pablo Daniel Osvaldo's pass allowing Vieri to score with a carbon copy of Jørgensen's strike for a team who had drawn all their previous three 2007/08 UEFA Cup ties 1-1, edging to this stage on penalties against FC Groningen.
Donadel rocket
Elfsborg gave themselves a lifeline five minutes before half-time when Johan Karlsson's searching pass found Ishizaki, who scored with a low shot from 12 metres. After the break, though, Cesare Prandelli's side took control, Donadel's stunning long-range strike on 62 minutes a prelude to Elfsborg's collapse.
Semioli impact
Krøldrup's headed in Semioli's pinpoint cross within three minutes and the scorer turned creator on 78 minutes when he picked out Jørgensen, who doubled his tally with ease. Di Carmine, who had only been on the pitch for five minutes, then connected with another Semioli cross to complete a memorable European night in Tuscany.
