Hakan Şükür and Larsson meet again

Star forwards Hakan Şükür and Henrik Larsson will meet for a fifth time as Galatasaray AS play host to Helsingborgs IF in an intriguing UEFA Cup Group H encounter.

• Larsson played in four games for Sweden against Turkey, scoring in two, and last turned out at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in September 2001. With his side trailing to a goal from Hakan Şükür, Larsson hit an 87th-minute equaliser, and Andreas Andersson grabbed a winner in added time.

• Hakan Şükür has played in five games against Sweden, scoring twice. Four of those five games saw him playing opposite Larsson - who was an unused substitute in the other match.

• In the four previous games in which the two legendary strikers have met, honours are even, with Sweden and Turkey winning a game each and the other two matches ending in draws.

• Both strikers are now 36. Hakan Şükür has scored 51 goals in 112 appearances for Turkey - making him the leading active international scorer in European football - while Larsson scored 36 goals in 93 games for Sweden.

• Galatasaray lost their opening Group H match 2-1 at FC Girondins de Bordeaux while Helsingborg drew 1-1 at home against Panionios GSS - Larsson levelling in the 83rd minute.

• The two sides have never met in European competition.

• Galatasaray have played four previous games against Swedish opponents, winning one, drawing one and losing two - home and away against IFK Göteborg in the 1994/95 UEFA Champions League group stage. Hakan Şükür played in both of those games.

• Their only win against a Swedish side was away from home, so they are yet to beat a Swedish team at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium, having drawn one and lost one of their ties against Allsvenskan opposition in Istanbul.

• Helsingborg have never played against Turkish opposition before.

• Galatasaray boast Swedish talent in the form of midfielder Tobias Linderoth, who also played in the aforementioned Sweden win against Turkey.

• Galatasaray coach Karl-Heinz Feldkamp met Swedish opposition in his days at 1. FC Kaiserslautern, drawing 1-1 at home and losing 2-1 away against Sven-Göran Eriksson's IFK Göteborg in the 1981/82 UEFA Cup semi-finals. The Swedish side went on to win the competition.

• The Swedish season is now over, with Helsingborg finishing eighth. Their only way of ensuring a return to the UEFA Cup next season would be to win the competition.

• Galatasaray have won their last three European home games.

• FK Austria Wien are at home to section leaders Bordeaux in the day's other Group H game.
