Real Zaragoza have agreed to extend goalkeeper César Sánchez's deal at the club by a year until June 2009 as their UEFA Cup campaign gets under way on Thursday.
Existing contract
The 36-year-old goalkeeper's existing deal is due to expire in nine months' time but the Spanish side have moved quickly to add another 12 months to the agreement with the opening leg of their first round tie against Greek side Aris Thessaloniki FC looming. Sánchez joined the club in 2005 after five seasons at Real Madrid CF, and has since played 53 league games and helped Zaragoza reach the final of the 2005/06 Copa del Rey. Zaragoza qualified for the UEFA Cup by finishing sixth in the Primera División last season.
