Happy homecoming
Dunn was unveiled at a press conference after deciding to sign for his former club at the expense of local rivals Bolton Wanderers FC, who had appeared to be on the verge of landing the one-time England international. The 27-year-old passed a medical at Bolton yesterday but when it emerged that Blackburn had tabled a late bid, Dunn elected to return to his hometown team. "He's told me that's where he wants to go - simple as that," said Bolton manager Sam Allardyce. "It [Bolton] was not quite a big enough pull compared to the town where he was born and bred."
Change of scene
Dunn came through the youth academy at Blackburn and made 136 league appearances for the north-west side, helping them earn promotion to the Premiership and win the English League Cup in 2002. He moved to Birmingham for €8.4m the following summer after falling out with then manager Graeme Souness, but his stay at Birmingham was blighted by injuries which restricted him to 46 league starts.
