Reid has been out of action since injuring his back in the Republic of Ireland's 1-0 defeat against Germany in a UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifier in September. He is not expected to return before mid-February and he will be hoping Blackburn are still in contention for the UEFA Cup at that time. He will miss all of their UEFA Cup Group E games as well as the Republic of Ireland's UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying Group D home tie against San Marino on 15 November.
