Rangers FC goalkeeper Allan McGregor has signed a new contract tying him to the Glasgow club until 2009.
Staying put
The 24-year-old was in the final year of his original deal and had been expected to consider his options after being dropped by manager Paul Le Guen in recent weeks, with the fit-again Lionel Letizi being favoured. However, McGregor, whose five Scottish Premier League appearances this season earned him the Player of the Month award for September, has decided to commit to the team he joined as a schoolboy, putting pen to paper on a new two-and-a-half year deal.
Smith follows suit
Despite his long association with Ibrox, McGregor has played only 13 league games for Rangers, having had spells on loan at Saint Johnstone FC and Dunfermline Athletic FC. Also staying on the blue side of Glasgow is left-back Steven Smith, who signed a contract until 2010 today, having featured 32 times in the Rangers first team since his debut in the 2004/05 campaign.
