Trabzonspor face UEFA probe

The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body will meet on Monday to discuss the behaviour of Trabzonspor supporters during the UEFA Cup defeat of APOEL FC.

The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body will meet on Monday 4 September to discuss the behaviour of Trabzonspor supporters during the UEFA Cup victory against APOEL FC last Thursday.

Objects thrown
Trabzonspor won the second qualifying round second leg at the Hüseyin Avni Aker stadium 1-0 thanks to Ömer Riza's 87th-minute goal to progress to the first round. In the 27th minute of the match in Turkey, home fans lit a flare and threw it into another section containing Trabzonspor supporters. Just before the game was to resume after half-time, two bottles were lobbed from the same end into a visitors' section containing approximately 80 fans, rapidly followed by a flare which was picked up by stewards and extinguished.

Further incidents
After Ömer's late strike – which ensured a 2-1 aggregate success for Trabzonspor – a bottle of water was thrown from the main stand in the direction of the fourth official, landing close to him on the running track. A firecracker was then ignited in the 88th minute, causing smoke to rise above the tiers of the stands. There were further incidents of bottle and object throwing towards the away supporters as the ground was cleared after full time, forcing police in riot gear to protect them by ushering the visitors to the top of the sector.
